Post-Sentencing Statement from Defendant Liz Soto

·

The government is using zines and a printing press to sentence me to 50 years, a life sentence in prison. My crimes have been made clear by the prosecution, they don’t want people like me to have access to these constitutionally protected and invaluable resources. This is an attempt at silencing decent, at creating fear amongst its citizens to insure no one speaks against this current administration.

The fictitious narrative presented by the government doesn’t exist in reality. It is their design created to criminalize people for protesting, for not conforming.

We are living through a moment in time that will affect everyone in the future. If this conviction is allowed to stand, it will affect countless others.
The precedent has been set, we are the examples created to silence those who speak out.
It is up to all of us to push back.
Remember that this happened.
Remember how it happened.
Know it doesn’t end here.
Now it can happen to anyone.

To the world,
We cannot let this stand.
For the people who come after us, we must never give up.
We will go home.
