Hell Got Fat (poem) by Autumn Hill

·

Hell has gotten fat
Her knees ache
Her back creaks
Her body groans under the stress
Of its own weight
She is gouty and sore
Her feet complain
When she goes for a walk
She huffs and puffs
And sweats
As she struggles to stay in shape
In the shower and the bath
The demimonde goddess’ underbelly
Makes washing hard for her
When she stands on the scale
She must bend double to see her numbers
She goes to her couch to lie
The Great Hungry Black Earth
And listens to the sound
Of her heart straining
Of her gut churning
Gather round her feet
Children of Hell
Listen to what your Mother says
“You are overfeeding me dears!
I cannot control my eating
All the blood that you shed
All the raw flesh you masticate
All the sweat poured out by the poor
And the years taken from the prisoners
The putrid remains of ancient life
Which you burn to power your world
The food you feed me
Is disgustingly rich
The quantities are too great
Don’t you know
All things come to my mouth?
I will graze at my own pace
If you let me
Gentle as a cow
You must all come home to me
But must you send each other so fast?
Please my children
I am no glutton
But I will eat you to extinction
If you make me
I know what you will tell me
Dear one
That it is your rulers
With their imperial wars
Glutting you
And me
With goods we do not want
Or need
Weaving a web of black magic ads
To shove this world down my throat
But am I not the great equalizer?
Bring me your rulers
The rich and the politicians and the aristocrats
I eat the strong too
